There are companies who aim to give their names a good image like itās the first thing they should protect. There are those who have already established that and unfortunately there are those that were tarnished with a bad reputation propagated on the internet and perhaps was even penalized by Google as a result. This could be because of bad services and reviews that customers encountered. Ebay for one is a service that has many flaws along with bogus sellers that you and I would sometimes transact with. Ebay has long ago introduced a rating system to help customers in finding legitimate sellers with good services.
Ā ĀWhat about those articles that were already written ā those that keeps coming up at the top list of search engines? Is there a way to remove if not lower its rank? If there are services offered to boost rank, there surely is one that will help a company (even individuals) lower negatively written articles.
These services are coined either as search engine optimization (SEO) management or online reputation management (ORM) services in the blogosphere. A handful of ORM techniques could be done online: like promotional activity through new content writing, involvement in the social web sphere (through forums, blogs, social networking), promotion of existing positive content and building social profiles. This way, the negative links would be pushed down by positive feedbacks and would not be as visible as before.
Ā
Take a personal experience for example. Whoās not so vain to not google his or her name once in a while? Hubby just did and found on top of everything else that he was reported as a hacker. ^_^ We were alarmed and we cited the source of the report, talked to the owner of the blog. Turns out that it was just a misunderstandingā¦what seems to be a blog post has been deleted and only the tags has been cached by google, still the report is on top of the search engines. I looked around for tutorials on how to have the tags removed and asked the blog owner to kindly have it fixed.
It has been since removed and Iām glad that we didnāt have to do a damage control kind of thing as what ORM services would.Ā Such entries might not disappear but you can ācoverā them for the sake of your reputation by building up a good oneā¦that is: good write ups about the company or individual and proper SEO techniques. It is doable by yourself but you can also hire professionals to do the job for you.Ā Take Click ConsultĀ for an example, an award winning SEO company that has 15 years of experience in the field ā to be able to stay long in the market says a lot about their own reputation. In case you find yourself in a predicament such as ours, here are some of the things that you should look into when choosing an ORM company to help maintain a healthy online reputation.

Is the ORM company credible?
Look up theĀ leadership or founder of the company, determine if they have been in the industry long enough to know the ins and outs. Client feedback, along with case studies are good indicators of a credible ORM company. Not all clients may leave a feedback or have their ties with an ORM company published out there, but there would still be those who would lend their experience in helping others find the company that helped them.
-
Quality over quantity
While having a number of clients is something to boast about, but the time it takes to build oneās online reputation doesnāt happen overnight, choose an ORM company that will help you in the long run and not just a burst of popularity that could easily be gone as it came.
-
Consider Awards
Digital Excellence Awards aināt just for show. If a company consistently wins such awards year after year, itās definitely your go to.
-
Active online presence
A trustworthy ORM company will be active in social media ā answering questions from interested individuals and representatives. You could try asking a question or two and see for yourself how each company responds. This will give you a good grasp at how they handle their business.

Worth your money
High-priced approaches doesnāt necessarily equal good service, nor can cheap-priced strategies be effective all the time. Beware of black-hat seo techniques, the best way an ORM company can help you is to work within the guidelines of Google and not against it. It is better to build your reputation through time and time-testedĀ methods with the right ORM company.

At the end of the day, your reputation is really the only thing you have. It takes so long to build and can be lost in the blink of an eye. So smart of you guys for having Googled his name. I hadnāt really thought about doing it. Iām really glad there was someone honest that you could work with to get it corrected. In todayās online world, it definitely could have gone the other way. x

I have learned the lesson that there are so many places out there quick to take your money and slow to give you service. A lot of the times there is nothing coming from their end so it helps to read up on things like this, what a great resource. I needed to check this out and now to implement these strategies!

Youāre right about the saying quality over quantity, you canāt build a program or company without getting positive feedback. In order to build your reputation, you need to earn it from your customers or clients. If you put a lot of time and money into your business and product you want to make sure it meets their needs. Itās great when you can reach out to hundreds or thousands which will gain you popularity and followers hopefully in no time.
